Holdovers

A shrewd coach knows what can be built on

League,

I’ve compiled the list of possible holdover candidates for each team as seen below.  Kickers and defenses have been eliminated as they are not eligible for holdover (even though Jonny G paid top dollar for Matt Prater last year), mostly just to simplify things.  The actual price of the holdovers is not set in stone yet.  We will use the most up to the minute ESPN auction draft values list as the draft nears.  The actual list will be passed around on at draft day, but you can view the ESPN draft kit list (here) at any time to see the most current list.

As we discussed, there exists the possibility of a points-per-reception list (here).  I will look into which list seems better and we’ve already had some discussion about this over on the site.  Again, it’s sort of a toss-up for us because we have a half-point-per-reception league, so theoretically we should be right in the middle.  There are significant differences as well (just look at the difference in AP’s holdover number).   It mostly comes down to which running backs catch the ball and which don’t.  QB values are mildly different, but I’m not sure why.  WR values may change based on possession style vs. deep threat.  The differences are interesting.   I may consider printing both lists and using the mean value, which shouldn’t be too difficult.  Comments, as always, are welcome.

As usual each team can holdover up to two players maximum, but can also choose to holdover one or even none.  The auction is set on a $200 scale and holdover prices are subtracted from that number.

Holdovers will be revealed on draft day by secret ballot.   On the list below, my only injury addition thus far is Jermichael Finley to PPR’s team.  Off the top of my head I don’t recall any other season ending IR injuries that players may have claim to, but I may be forgetting someone.  Chime in if you think I’ve missed someone on your team (or another).   (You can ignore the numbers following most of the players – they’re just stats and points that I was too lazy to delete as I was pasting everything over from the Yahoo site.)

We are less than two weeks away from the draft.   That is awesome.

Something Old, Something New?

As the season draws nearer it’s time to look at our current scoring settings and see if any tweaks should be made.  It seems that every year Yahoo releases a few new features in the scoring department, all seemingly with intriguing possibilities.  Personally, as both Commish and steward of the archives, I generally like to keep as much consistency as possible which allows for more successful season to season comparisons.  That said, one must remember that MLOM is also a dynamic league that is ever-evolving, like an all-pro working yet harder each year to make himself even better.   As such it’s worth looking at all new options, even if we make no changes.

Follow the link below to see the new possible scoring categories:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/football/scoring/football-170.html

A summary of the new option highlights this year include bonuses for 40+ yard plays (passing, rushing, receiving) for both TD and non-TD plays, as well as potential extra penalties for QB picks-for-six. For defensive scoring, some additional possibilities include points based on yards allowed, fourth down stops, and 3 and outs.  Intriguing stuff to be sure.

As of right now, I’ve changed nothing and kept scoring exactly the same (viewable under the “Scoring & Settings” tab on the league home page), but I’m thinking about these things and at least considering some minor changes.  I tend to be a dictator when it comes to selecting the scoring settings because one can’t please everyone, but I like input from the league as well.  Anyone have any thoughts on these possible scoring options?
